Crontab:

Which run periodically as per the definition. (example  scheduler’s run certain task as per instructions which is set to it. 

or

Configuration file that specifies shell commands to run periodically on a given schedule. The crontab files are stored where the lists of jobs and other instructions to the cron daemon are kept. 

Each line of a crontab file represents a job, and looks like this:

Sudo -I 

Crontab -l 

Crontab -e will go for edit mode 

 

# Example of job definition: 

# .—————- minute (0 – 59) 

# |  .————- hour (0 – 23) 

# |  |  .———- day of month (1 – 31) 

# |  |  |  .——- month (1 – 12) OR jan,feb,mar,apr … 

# |  |  |  |  .—- day of week (0 – 6) (Sunday=0 or 7) OR sun,mon,tue,wed,thu,fri,sat

Example:

For Controller Node switch to root user using <sudo -i>

To enter inside edit mode in crontab

Use the following command <crontab -e> insert the below highlighted code as reference example  

0 1 * * * /usr/bin/find /var/log/zabbix/metrics/*.csv* -mtime +30 -exec rm -rf {} \; > /dev/null 2>&1 

Here crontab will delete the files which is older than 30days (-mtime +30 exec rm -rf).
